Putnam county has exploded with growth. As a result, it seems our parks and recreation facilities have shrunk. We are excited to share 74 acres that God has blessed us with, with all of Putnam County. Our goal is to see the property turned into a recreational facility to be enjoyed by all in our community.
We currently have two sand volley ball courts, walking/riding trails, a picnic shelter which will seat 100, a playground and restroom facilities for the community to use. Parties and special groups can reserve space by calling the church office at 757-9222.
Our ongoing plan includes the development of soccer and softball fields, basketball courts, camping cabins and a two-gymnasium facility that will also serve as a conference and banquet facility. Our community will be able to gather for community meetings, support groups, wedding receptions, indoor sports and more in the future “Teays Valley Community Center,” rather than have to drive to Huntington or Charleston to utilize such facilities.
We are a worshiping congregation of just over 300 people. While the congregation was able to purchase the land without outside help and accomplish much of the development thus far, we know that we cannot see this dream become reality without community partners. We’re seeking corporate, community and grant funds to begin and complete the outdoor sports center in addition to the financial pledges from our church membership. An anonymous businessman in Putnam County has offered 25,000.00 in matching funds provided they are given by other local businesses.
